Equity benchmark indices were oscillating between gains and losses in Thursday's morning session ahead of the weekly expiry, tracking global peers. The Sensex rose 2 points to 35,758 levels, and the Nifty rose marginally to trade at 10,736 levels.

All sectoral indices were in the green on the NSE except Nifty IT. The Nifty PSU Bank index was leading sectoral indices, rising 1% on news that the government would inject Rs48,200cr into 12 public banks to boost credit growth.

The fund infusion will ensure that capital ratios for all state-run lenders are above the regulatory requirement and will help Allahabad Bank and Corporation Bank exit the Prompt Corrective Action plan, Rajeev Kumar, secretary at Department of Financial Services stated on social media on Wednesday.

Among stocks, Indiabulls Housing Finance, GAIL, ICICI Bank, Ultratech Cement, and Sun Pharmaceutical were the top gainers. Conversely, Infratel, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, HPCL, and Yes Bank lost the most.

Further, India VIX, a volatility index which measures the market’s expectation of volatility over the near term, fell 0.35%.

Incidentally, the market breadth was positive on the NSE with 935 shares advancing, 553 shares declining, while 553 shares remaining unchanged.

On the currency front, the Indian rupee maintained its upward movement and opened marginally higher at 71.07 against the dollar compared to its previous close of 71.11/$. The appreciation in the currency could be on the back of easing crude oil prices in global markets and a weak dollar relative to its major peers.

SGX Nifty Indicates Gap Down Opening Tracking Turmoil In Global Equities

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SGX Nifty is currently 80 points down at 10,172 levels. For today, expect early selling to continue as margin unwinding could see some more weakness; however, a second half pullback could be on the cards as markets remain heavily oversold.

Yesterday, Nifty had another strong reversal as collateral derivative expiry related selling saw the index fall over 180 points from a high of 10,404 to a low of 10,224. The selloff was more pronounced with the mid-cap index falling over 1.25% as media, metals, and PSU banks fell sharply.

Global markets: Asian indices opened weak with the Japanese "Nikkei" seeing selling on the opening bell. Yesterday, Chinese stocks had the best rally in almost two years as the index jumped over 4%. Data from China has been rather positive and government intervention on the stock market should see more momentum. For today, expect the second half of the buying session to re-emerge as stocks see value buying.

US markets: US stocks closed lower even as technology stocks rebound with Nasdaq closing in the green. Oil fell as Saudi Arabia assured more supply, while US inventories also witnessed a rise. President Trump indicated that a 10% tax cut is coming for middle income public; sentiments, however, continue to remain brittle.

FII/DII Data: In yesterday’s trading session, FIIs sold 511cr stock in the cash market, whereas DIIs bought 303cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs bought 524cr of Index futures and bought 942cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs bought 349cr worth of stock futures and bought 155cr stock options.

FII View: FII created marginally bullish positions in the Index Futures segment, which is indicated by the fact that they created 23 fresh long contracts, while simultaneously reducing 6,563 short contracts. However, considering the volatility in the markets, they also purchased 20,702 long contracts in Index Put Options. Plus, the long-short ratio in Index Futures currently stands at 0.6x since the start of the October series indicating net bearish positions.

SGX Nifty Indicates Flat Opening Focus On Q2 Earnings

SGX Nifty is currently 17 points down at 10,308 levels. For today, expect 10,250 levels to hold as rupee holding gains closer to 73 could inspire some confidence along with better than expected earnings from large corporates like HDFC bank.

Nifty had another volatile session with the index falling over 150 points as global cues played out negatively with foreign selling accentuating.

Global markets: Asian indices opened in the red led by the Japanese “Nikkei” as the yen saw strength which hurt exporters. The under-lying fear of the China tariff war escalating has seen Chinese stocks get severely beaten. Expect consolidation in Asia, except the Japanese markets, as over-sold indices are due for a strong rebound.

US markets: US stocks see a pull-back with Dow Jones closing in the green even as NASDAQ continues its losing streak. Rising yields, China tariff war and Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic uncertainty grows even as oil sees weakness. President Trump has hinted at more tax cuts before the November elections as the US dollar sees weakness.

FII/DII Data: In Friday’s trading session, FIIs sold 618cr stock in the cash market, whereas DIIs sold 2cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs sold 437cr of Index futures and bought 2,584cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs sold 1,663cr worth of stock futures and bought 285cr stock options.

FII View: FII created bearish positions in the Index futures segment which is indicated by the fact that they created 7,316 fresh short contracts, while simultaneously creating 24,968 short contracts in Index Call Options. Plus, the long short ratio in Index futures currently stands at 0.6x since the start of the Oct series indicating net bearish positions.

Markets posted a strong opening on robust global cues. Nifty opened above the 10,650 mark, while Sensex was trading much higher by 400 points. However, it soon pared gains.

The indices were tracking their global counterparts, as Asian equities climbed tracking the rebound on Wall Street. This was mainly attributed to upbeat US earnings data from major companies like UnitedHealth and Goldman Sachs. These gains in US equities did make emerging markets optimistic.

D-street was then trading up 274 points at 35,437 levels, while NSE was trading at 10,661 levels, up 77 points.

All of Nifty’s sectoral indices were trading in the green, with IT and PSU Bank higher over 1%.

Among stocks, Infosys, Eicher Motors and GAIL led the winners’ brigade, rising over 2%. They were followed by Hindustan Unilever, ICICI bank, and State Bank of India, which gained 1%. The losers were led by Indiabulls Housing Finance, which plummeted over 5.5%, followed by BPCL which lost over 1%.

Infosys gained over 2% as investors cheered the firm’s positive results, while Reliance Industries was marginally high ahead of its Q2FY19 results.

The market breadth, meanwhile, was positive with 1240 stocks advancing, 296 stocks declining, and 484 stocks remaining unchanged.
Also, on the NSE, 2 securities were trading at their 52-week high, while 14 securities were at their 52-week lows.

The rupee opened marginally higher by 5 paise and was trading at 73.43 against the dollar. During yesterday’s close, the rupee was trading at 73.48.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Nifty rose for second day in a row, the first time in a month. It gained 40 points to close above 10,500 levels on Monday. The RSI oscillator on the Nifty and the BankNifty charts has confirmed the positive divergence during the last week, where the price has made new low and oscillator formed a higher low.

This setup indicates that bears seem to have lost the dominance gradually and there could be a chance of a trend reversal for the short-term.
The long-term support derived from the trend line, adjoining the bottoms of Oct 2008(2252) and February 2016(6825) is placed at 10200 odd levels.During last week, Nifty violated this support but managed to close above that. So, the implication of the trend line support remains intact. Though, Nifty is currently trading below its 20, 50, 100 and 200 DMA.
It managed to close above its 5-days SMA on last Friday and therefore we should not rule

out the chances of a sharp pullback from current levels.

The 200-DMA for the Nifty is currently placed at 10,780 odd levels, while there has been an unfilled gap formed in the range of 10755-10843.

We believe that the index could extend the recent pullback towards 10,800, around which 200-DMA and Gap resistance coincides.

During the current October month, the BankNifty has clearly remained one of the outperformers where it gained by 1 percent while the Nifty fell by 4 percent.

RSI, Wave trend and Stochastic oscillators have exited from the oversold zone with positive divergence on the daily charts. During the last week, Bank Nifty closed above its 5 day SMA, indicating short term trend reversal.

A 200-DMA for the BankNifty is placed at 26,090, which can act as a short-term resistance. The support for the index has shifted upward to 24,900 odd levels, which can be kept as a stop-loss in the trading long positions.

We expect Bank Nifty to continue with its out performance in the short-term. In the Derivatives segment also, we have seen long positions being built in the BankNifty Futures’ during the current series.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs’) also created fresh longs in the Index Options and Stock Futures’ during the last week. Amongst the Options, Puts have been written at 10,300-10,400 levels.

Trade Setup For Thursday Top 15 Things To Know Before Opening Bell

The market made a strong come back on Wednesday as the Nifty50 traded sharply higher throughout the session and reclaimed 10,450 levels. The rally was driven by financial space after SBI decided to purchase loan assets worth up to Rs 45,000 crore from NBFCs.

The 50-share NSE index formed bullish candle on the daily charts and negated the formation of lower highs for previous six consecutive trading sessions.

The Nifty50 after opened higher at 10,331.85 extended gains as the day progressed and touched an intraday high of 10,482.35. It closed159.10 points higher at 10,460.10.

If the 50-share NSE index sustains above 10,300 levels then it can cross 10,700 levels followed by 10,850 levels, the critical hurdle, experts said.

"It was heartening to see Nifty50 making a strong come back, with a decent bullish candle, after a brutal correction market witnessed in last couple of weeks. This upmove looks broad based and secular with strong participation from all the sectors except IT," Mazhar Mohammad, Chief Strategist – Technical Research & Trading Advisory, Chartviewindia.in told Moneycontrol.

He said sustaining above 10,300 kind of levels in next couple of trading sessions Nifty50 can make an attempt to test 200-Day Exponential Moving Average whose value is placed around 10,767 levels.

"Interestingly it also coincides with the bearish gap zone of 10,754–10,843 formed on October 4. So, on the upsides 10,850 can be a critical hurdle which can cap the potential upsides going forward," he added.

He feels inspite of this short term bullishness today's spike shall continue to remain part of a pull back attempt and in case Nifty50 slips below 10,300 levels then recent low of 10,198 will again come under attack as culmination of corrective pattern requires Nifty50 to slip below 9,950 levels.

India VIX fell by 8.83 percent to 18.01 levels. Decline in VIX from higher levels with a topping out formation have given a short term stability and immediate bounce back move to the market. Now VIX has to further cool down below 16-15 zones to extend the market recovery.

The Nifty is likely to open on a flat note on Tuesday following muted trend seen in other Asian markets. The index closed 98 points lower at 11,582 on Monday.

Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a flat opening for the broader index in India, a fall of 1 point or 0.01 percent. Nifty futures were trading around 11,629-level on the Singaporean Exchange.

Asian shares fell in early trade on Tuesday, amid growing concerns over escalating international trade disputes and as emergency austerity measures in Argentina highlighted turbulence in emerging markets, said a Reuters report.

The Indian rupee, on Monday, closed at a record closing low of 71.21 on the back of overseas fund outflows even as GDP data saw a robust growth for the April-June quarter of current fiscal.

The Nifty, after opening gap down traded in a large range of around 90 points throughout the Friday session, before and closing flat with a positive bias. The consolidation for last three consecutive sessions last week indicated that traders had turned cautious after a sharp run and ahead of Q1 GDP data due later that day.

The index made small bullish candle and formed 'Long Legged Doji' pattern on the daily charts. On the weekly charts, it formed 'Shooting Star' kind of pattern.

A typical long-legged Doji pattern is formed when the opening price is almost equal to the closing price but there was a lot of intraday movement on either side. A 'Shooting Star' pattern is formed when the index comes under selling pressure as traders start booking profits at higher levels.

This pattern is usually formed in an uptrend and is treated as a reversal pattern, but it would require confirmation before it can be concluded that the trend could reverse in the near future.

Share price of Greaves Cotton touched 52-week high of Rs 159.90, rising 9.5 percent in morning trade as company board approved acquisition of majority stake in Ampere Vehicles.

The board has approved the proposal of investment in Ampere Vehicles by acquiring 67 percent in the first phase and further 13 percent in a span of three years.

This acquisition will accelerate the development of clean energy technology solutions for mobility needs of passengers and small businesses, company said in release.

The company to acquire 67 percent stake in Ampere for Rs 77 crore, which to be completed by December 31, 2018, while for another 13 percent stake the company to shell out another Rs 75.5 crore.
One big reason why INR is behaving in this fashion is due to its sensitivity to oil prices which is very high. The market is generally differentiating between the current account deficit and current account surplus nations. In a way, INR is suffering due to current account deficit and its price sensitivity to oil prices.

We expect the INR to head towards 71-72/$ but in the near-term there is a higher likelihood of consolidation at current levels.

A strong day for Indian markets but traders preferred to book profits at higher levels. But, benchmark indices managed to end at a fresh closing high on Thursday.

Nifty hit 11600 for the first time in history. This was the 25th time when Nifty ended at a record closing high in 2018.

Traders become cautious after Beijing implemented new retaliatory tariffs against the United States. China officially retaliated against fresh duties, worth USD 16 billion, from the United States.

Things which could act as a spoiler for Indian markets is rupee which closed above Rs 70/USD and crude oil prices which rose for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday.
