SGX Nifty is at 10898, down 89 points. We expect some consolidation around current levels as local funds book profits with the mid-caps seeing more traction on the upside.

On Wednesday, the Nifty saw another superb close with the index approaching 11000 levels and the mid-caps outperforming. This came in as bond yields hit 8 months lows, rupee sees gains, and foreign investors turn big buyers.
Global markets: Asian indices traded in the red led by the Japanese Nikkei. With lower yields and oil prices it should bode well for Asian indices as lower cost of funds see corporate earnings do better. Expect more trade-related news from the Chinese government, which should soothe the sentiment further.
US markets: US stocks ended at year lows as the US Fed hikes key rates by 25bps, while lowers 2019 rate hike projections to two; markets continue to sell-off. Bond yields hit 2.77%, the lowest in the last 6 months, while Brent crude also retreats to trade near $56 per barrel. Technical weakness seeing Dow Jones slipped into heavily oversold territory.

FII/DII Data: In yesterday’s trading session, FIIs bought 1209cr stock in the cash market whereas DIIs sold 481cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs bought 501cr of Index futures and sold 356cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs sold 71cr worth of stock futures and sold 324cr stock options.

FII View: FIIs created bullish positions in Index Futures in yesterday’s trading session, which is deduced by the fact that they created 5333 net long contracts in the segment, while simultaneously creating 2274 short contracts in Index Put Options. However, the long-short ratio in Index Futures currently stands at 0.8x since the start of the December series which is a bearish sign.

The overall set up at the current juncture seems to be positive. However, Nifty continues to trade between a narrow trading band of 10,450-10,650. The 200-DEMA resistance zone further on is around the 10,700 levels.

For any kind of meaningful upswing to begin, the Nifty has to surpass the crucial mentioned resistance zone. Post that, we expect the index to rally towards the 11,100 levels in the near term. On the downside, longs should be protected with stop loss around 10,300 levels.

Bank Nifty has already broken out from a classic Cup and Handle pattern on the hourly chart and it has also managed to hold above the same. The index has surpassed important resistance of 25,900 levels and closed above the same which is a positive development. If the momentum prolongs, Bank Nifty is expected to move higher towards potential target of 26,800 levels. Protective stop loss should be placed around 25,800 levels.

Markets posted a strong opening on robust global cues. Nifty opened above the 10,650 mark, while Sensex was trading much higher by 400 points. However, it soon pared gains.

The indices were tracking their global counterparts, as Asian equities climbed tracking the rebound on Wall Street. This was mainly attributed to upbeat US earnings data from major companies like UnitedHealth and Goldman Sachs. These gains in US equities did make emerging markets optimistic.

D-street was then trading up 274 points at 35,437 levels, while NSE was trading at 10,661 levels, up 77 points.

All of Nifty’s sectoral indices were trading in the green, with IT and PSU Bank higher over 1%.

Among stocks, Infosys, Eicher Motors and GAIL led the winners’ brigade, rising over 2%. They were followed by Hindustan Unilever, ICICI bank, and State Bank of India, which gained 1%. The losers were led by Indiabulls Housing Finance, which plummeted over 5.5%, followed by BPCL which lost over 1%.

Infosys gained over 2% as investors cheered the firm’s positive results, while Reliance Industries was marginally high ahead of its Q2FY19 results.

The market breadth, meanwhile, was positive with 1240 stocks advancing, 296 stocks declining, and 484 stocks remaining unchanged.
Also, on the NSE, 2 securities were trading at their 52-week high, while 14 securities were at their 52-week lows.

The rupee opened marginally higher by 5 paise and was trading at 73.43 against the dollar. During yesterday’s close, the rupee was trading at 73.48.

As per momentum oscillators, the market has entered deeply oversold levels, at which, fresh shorts are not suggested as the risk-reward would not be favourable, Manav Chopra, CMT, Head of Research, Indiabulls Ventures tells Moneycontrol’s Kshitij Anand. Edited excerpts:

The Nifty 50 seems to be in the bear grip. It also marked the sixth weekly decline on charts. Is it time to go short on the index? If yes, what will be the target and stop loss which one should keep in mind?

As per momentum oscillators, the market has entered deeply oversold levels, at these levels fresh shorts are not suggested as the risk-reward would not be favourable right now.

The levels of 10,150-10,200 might act as a cushion on further declines. If the market faces any support at these levels we may witness a relief rally up to 10,500-10,600 levels.

Sensex, Nifty To Open Higher On Positive Rally In Global Equities

SGX Nifty is currently trading 45 points up at 11,087. For today, some consolidation can been witnessed with stock-specific movement as rupee and bond yields stabilize.

In the previous session, Nifty had another week close to see the September series of derivative contracts end down ~6%.The last session saw bears dominate from opening bell as weak rollovers and extreme pressure on banks and financial services stocks saw the Nifty close below the 11000 mark.

Global markets: Asian indices opened in the green lead by the Japanese Nikkei with exporters leading the rally as the Japanese Yen hit 2018 lows against the US dollar. Asian markets have been seeing a strong value buying after last fortnight as flows get directed towards emerging markets. For today, a strong close can be seen to an event filled week with most indices closing in the green.

US markets: US indices bounce back with technology stocks regaining their momentum. Earnings are to be the next catalyst with financials leading the pack. A strong US dollar sees yields stabilize around 3.07% as the US Federal Reserve action indicates another rate hike in December.

FII Data: In the yesterday’s trading session, FIIs bought 552cr stock in the cash market, whereas DIIs sold 186cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs sold 1535cr of Index futures and sold 382cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs bought 780cr worth of stock futures and sold 41cr stock options.

FII View: The October series starts with positions more on the bearish side, which is indicated by a long short ratio of 0.9x in Index Futures and open interest positions of nearly 2.55 lakh in Index Put options. The rollover data also indicates more bearish positions.

The Nifty50 is likely to open flat on Tuesday following muted trend seen in other Asian markets. The index closed 73 points lower at 11,355 on Monday.

Overnight, US stocks dropped as global jitters from Turkey’s plummeting currency spread to Wall Street while Asian markets were trading mixed

Bears continued to dominate Dalal Street for the second consecutive session on August 13 as the Nifty50 fell sharply, closing far below the psychological 11,400-mark following the Turkey crisis and further weakness in the rupee against the dollar.

The Nifty closed below the five-day EMA as well as nine-day EMA, which offered major support to Nifty in earlier corrections. The index formed a small bearish candle on the daily charts.

According to experts, closing below five and nine-day EMA indicated that there could be a significant fall in coming sessions. The next crucial support is placed at 11,340.

The Nifty50 after opening sharply lower and breaking 11,400 levels extended losses as the day progressed and hit an intraday low of 11,340.30. It did manage to claw back above 11,400 in afternoon trade, but failed to hold the same level and closed 73.70 points lower at 11,355.80.

After breaching the previous all-time high of 11,171.55 on the previous Friday, Nifty hit another milestone and registered a record high of 11,390.55 during Wednesday’s session.

The 25-bps rate hike in repo rate by RBI along with the hawkish stance by the US FOMC put pressure on emerging markets and our market, too, reacted and corrected sharply on Thursday.

Looking at the monthly chart, July month candle closed well above its previous all-time high of 11,171.55 which indicates that the broader trend is undoubtedly bullish; however, such move failed to get confirmed by the RSI (14) which signaled bearish divergence.

At this juncture, last week Friday’s gap area of 11,210 – 11,185 will act as a strong support. Any sustainable move below this level will extend the ongoing profit booking towards 11,080 – 11,025 levels, respectively.

Whereas on the higher side, 11,390 – 11,415 is a strong supply zone and surpassing this zone will allow Nifty to rally towards 11,500.

Options data also indicate that 11,500 will prove to be a stiff supply zone for Nifty. Maximum call writing has been seen at 11,500 option and any move towards those levels

can be used by a trader to book profit in their long positions.

Similarly, on the lower side, put writing at 11,200 will act as an immediate support and below that Nifty can drift towards 11,000 levels.

Overall, for this month, we expect broader indices to trade between 11,000 and 11,500 levels before giving any fresh breakout.

Here are the lists of stocks which could give 10-19% return in the next 15-20 sessions

Despite positive global cues market closed in the red for the fifth consecutive session on Monday, with the Nifty closing at 10,517 levels, down 80 points for the day.

The broader markets saw deeper cuts with BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices losing 1.64 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. Market breadth was in favour of declines with a 1:4 advance-decline ratio on the NSE.

The Nifty has broken below its support level of 10,600 levels on the downside and formed another bearish candlestick for the day. Now, its next support is placed at 10,440-10,460 levels. Here the 50 percent retracement of the entire rise from 9,952 to 10,929 levels and 50-day moving average supports are seen.In Nifty options, maximum open interest in puts is seen at the strike price of 10,500, suggesting support around 10,500-10,450 from where a bounceback may be expected.

In call options, a significant amount of open interest addition was seen in 10,600, followed by 10,700 and 10,650 levels.

Now the previous support level of 10,600 will act as immediate resistance for the market. Beyond that, any bounceback is likely to be capped at 10,670-10,700 levels.
