What a day for Indian markets! After a muted start we saw bulls which took control over D-Street in the second half of the trading session.

The finally tally -- the S&P BSE Sensex rose 373 points to close at 35, 354 while the Nifty50 rallied 101 points to end at 10,628.

The recent correction in crude oil prices and subsequent recovery in rupee has raised hope of status quo by the RBI in review meeting next month, suggest experts.

Also, Morgan Stanley maintains an overweight stance on India also added to optimism.

Sectorally, auto, banks, FMCG sector rose 1-2 percent respectively while on the losing side PSU, Healthcare, and Metal stocks saw some bit of profit taking.

Technically, bulls would only be able to take charge once the index close above 10774 levels.

On the downsides 10489 shall remain a critical support

This week we discuss two issues on our show macro@moneycontrol.

The Cabinet on June 6 approved a Rs 8,500-crore bailout package for the sugar industry which includes Rs 4,500 crore soft loan for building ethanol production capacity and creating a 3 million tonne stockpile to soak up excess supply.

The measures are aimed at dealing with the current crisis in the sugar sector and give some relief to the sugar millers.

The cabinet also decided to fix the minimum selling price (MSP) of white/refined sugar at Rs 29/kg.
In the second segment, Moneycontrol Economy Editor Gaurav Choudhury explains how Harley Davidson bikes are at the centre of India-US trade relations.

Any unfavourable verdict in the state elections, which indicates that the National Democratic Alliance government would face challenges in the 2019 elections, would result in a drastic fall in midcaps and smallcaps, said Akash Jain, Vice President - Equity Research, Ajcon Global.

Among sectors, Jain is bullish on midcap IT companies as growth is visible. He feels investors can accumulate companies in the pharma space with a 2-3 year horizon ‘as it will get re-rarted once earnings become visible.’ Taking a contrarian stance on state-run banks, Jain said the depressed valuations can be a good entry point for investors with a long waiting period and high risk appetite.

The Nifty ended Monday 0.79 percent higher at 10,688.65. It opened with a minor gap-up and touched an intraday high of 10,709, before ending the session with a bullish body candle.

However, failure to close above 10,700 may be an early indicator of an intraday retracement towards 10,630, which is to be considered as a decent buying opportunity for the next leg of up move towards 10,780. Its 30-day exponential moving average (EMA) on the daily chart is placed around 10,600, which should act as pivotal support going forward.

On the hourly chart, the Nifty is trading well above all crucial moving averages. Hence, the bullish momentum is likely to continue. Its 200 EMA placed around 10,600 may continue to act as pivotal support in coming sessions.

After witnessing a rather smooth ride in the week gone by, investors should brace for some volatility around the Karnataka election verdict. The Nifty rose about 1.7 percent for the week-ended May 11 and managed to close above 10,800 levels. But the move was largely led by index heavyweights, despite the market breadth remaining negative.

It was a terrible week for so many counters, especially those from the midcap universe that have been hammered brutally during last week. The only positive from last week trade was the Nifty’s close above 10,800 levels, ahead of the Karnataka election verdict, which suggests a favourable election outcome for markets.

“It looks like some hope has been built by the traders’ fraternity on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) becoming victorious in this crucial battle. In the initial part of the forthcoming week, it is advisable to stay light and keep assessing how the market behaves for a day or two post the key political event,” Sameet Chavan, Chief Analyst Technicals and Derivatives at Angel Broking, said.

The Nifty on Friday ended 0.57 percent lower at 10,618.25. Negative opening followed by retracement towards 10,600 levels led to end the session with a bearish body candle. Day’s low was 10,601.60.

Benchmark Index settled on weaker note on the last session of the week. Hence, in case of pullback it may again face resistance around 10,700 levels. On the weekly chart it ended 0.69 percent lower. A minor correction against 6 weeks of consecutive uptrend ended with a bearish shooting star candle. However, primary trend suggests it may again see aggressive buying on dips.

On the Nifty hourly chart; it ended just above the 100 EMA. Chart pattern suggests a pullback is likely. However, upside resistance around 10,700 has to be taken out towards unfolding a rise up to 10,780.

The Nifty50 which reclaimed its crucial psychological resistance level of 10,600 made a bullish candle on the daily charts on Thursday. The index took support at its 5-days exponential moving average (DEMA) for the third day in a row.

However, Nifty witnessed selling pressure around its crucial resistance level of 10,630-10,640. Hence, for bulls to regain control of D-Street, a close above 10,640 is required which would open fresh target towards 10,900 in the May series, suggest experts.

Options data suggests an immediate trading range in between 10,500 to 10,700, and traders are advised to remain on the long side. Level of 10,500 will act as crucial support for the index. Investors should keep a trailing stop loss below 10,530 for long positions.

On options, the May series data scattered at various strike prices since it’s the beginning of the new series. Maximum Put OI is at 10,500 followed by 10,400 strikes while maximum Call OI is at 11000 followed by 10,800 strikes.

"The combined company, which will fully own the respective businesses of Bharti Infratel and Indus Towers, will change its name to Indus Towers Limited and will continue to be listed on Indian Stock Exchanges," Bharti Group said in a statement announcing the joint deal.

The combined company will own 100 percent of Indus Towers. Indus Towers is currently jointly owned by Bharti Infratel (42 percent holding), Vodafone (42 percent), Idea Group (11.15 percent) and Providence (4.85 percent).

Post the deal, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone will jointly control the combined company, and the transaction is expected to close before the end of 2018-19, subject to statutory approvals.
