SGX Nifty Indicating A Negative Opening For The Market In-Line With Asian Peers

SGX Nifty is at 10,778, down 48 points. For today, we expect morning profit booking as weak global cues dominate the headlines.

Yesterday, Nifty saw another strong day of gains as stronger than expected IIP (index of industrial production) numbers coupled with lower than expected inflation saw foreign investors also turn buyers. This came in after the new Reserve Bank of India Governor sounded 'dovish" in his meeting with heads of PSU banks.

Global markets: Asian indices opened in the red taking cues form global indices as the Japanese Nikkei traded in the red after having a stellar week of gains. With weekend blues seeing traders go light, expect consolidation with a negative bias for today in the Asian region. Ease in trade tariffs has seen sentiment get better, however regular bouts of profit booking will keep the markets in check.

US markets: Dow Jones closes in the green after volatile session with Nasdaq ending with losses. European central bank leaves rates unchanged but signals official end to bond buying, which sees European stocks end in the red. Oil prices retreat after seeing marginal uptick as markets continue to be over supplied.

FII/DII Data: In yesterday’s trading session FIIs purchased 675cr stock in the cash market whereas DIIs sold 51cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs purchased 2395cr of Index futures and bought 3273cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FII’s sold 95cr worth of stock futures and bought 259cr stock options.

FII View: FIIs created bullish positions in Index Futures in yesterday’s trading session which is deduced by the fact that they created 17,372 fresh long contracts while simultaneously reducing 15,155 short contracts in the segment. However considering the volatility in the markets they also purchased 10329 long contracts in Index Put Options to hedge their positions.

As per momentum oscillators, the market has entered deeply oversold levels, at these levels fresh shorts are not suggested as the risk-reward would not be favourable right now.

The levels of 10,150-10,200 might act as a cushion on further declines. If the market faces any support at these levels we may witness a relief rally up to 10,500-10,600 levels.

The same is expected in BankNifty, instead of taking a fresh short position one should try to exit from shorts if BankNifty stabilizes 23,900-24,000 might act as a cushion for further decline.

On weekly charts, RSI is nearing long-term bullish support levels of 40. Historically, these levels have been good support in the bull market and even in the bear market these level generally leads to mean reversion rally.

We expect Nifty to mean revert towards critical moving averages which are placed around 10,700-10,800 levels (200-DEMA placed around 10,779).

Trade Setup For Tuesday Top 15 Things To Know Before Opening Bell

Bulls failed to regain control over D-Street as the Nifty slipped below the crucial moving averages such as 5-day exponential moving average (EMA), 20-EMA, 13-EMA in a single day and made a "Bearish Belt Hold" kind of pattern on daily charts on September 17.

A 'Bearish Belt Hold' pattern is formed when the opening price becomes the highest point of the trading day (intraday high) and the index declines throughout the trading day making up for the large body. The candle will either have a small or no upper shadow and a small lower shadow.

The index slipped below the crucial short-term moving average and the next support is now placed at 11,250 which was the swing low formed on September 12. On the other hand, for bulls to take control, Nifty has to reclaim the 11,520 level.

The Nifty opened at 11,464 and slipped below 11,400 to touch its intraday low of 11,366 before closing the day at 11,377, down 137 points.

On Monday, the market saw huge sell off during the day and closed with a big negative sign. Meanwhile, Asian and European markets also remained mixed.

Weak rupee was the main concern for Indian market and at the end of Monday, Nifty closed at 11,438.1, down by 151 points from previous close.

Indian rupee hit fresh low of 72.67 against the dollar which creates more worries over fiscal slippages. Banking and NBFC stocks were top losers due to weak rupee.

Nifty has formed big red candlestick with lower top which is negative. Short-term moving averages turned negative.

For today's trading, 11,393 will act as strong support. Break of this level with volume will create fresh panic up to 11,359-11,340. On the upper side, 11,500 will act as strong resistance.

It has been a terrific Tuesday for the markets as benchmark indices scaled new heights. Sensex rose over 150 points, touching 38,863 levels, while Nifty touched the 11,750 mark for the first time, up 50 points.

All of NSE’s sectoral indices, except the PSU Bank index, were trading in the green, with metal and pharma surging over 1%.

The market breadth was buoyant, with 976 shares advancing, 583 shares declining, and 491 shares remaining unchanged.

The top winners were NTPC (+3%), GAIL, Cipla (+2%), Coal India, Vedanta, and Hindalco (+1% each). These gains were offset by losses in Yes Bank (-1%), Titan, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Auto (-0.5% each).

Moreover, a total of 33 securities registered a 52-week high on the NSE, while 25 securities posted a 52-week low.

The India rupee also opened on a buoyant note by 14 paise at 70.02 per dollar on Tuesday vs. a close of 70.16 on Monday evening.

After enjoying a five-week solid upswing, the Nifty is finally showing early signs of fatigue. Indices have entered into a consolidation phase at the current juncture on account of multiple challenges.

The rupee failed to halt its weakening trend as the currency continued to free fall against the dollar on Thursday. The rupee breached the psychological Rs 70 per dollar mark in Thursday's trading session and hit a fresh low of Rs 70.39/$.

Global weakness continues to dent sentiment on the street. However, the overall scenario for the Indian equity market has not changed as yet as the higher peak and higher trough structure continues to remain intact. The short term trend is likely to reverse only if the Nifty breaches the 11,340 on a closing basis. On the upside, a break above the resistance of 11,500 would trigger a fresh breakout for the Nifty.

The Nifty Pharma index continues to show immense strength after the breakout that it witnessed two weeks earlier. The index has managed to form a bullish engulfing pattern, which further strengthens our conviction on the sector.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index remains stuck in a narrow trading band and is forming a Flag pattern. It is also sustaining above its long-term 200-Double Exponential Moving Average, which is a positive development. A break above 19,330 level would trigger a Flag pattern breakout.

The Nifty is likely to open higher on Friday, tracking positive trend seen in other Asian markets. The index closed 50 points lower at 11,385 on Thursday.

Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a positive opening for the broader index in India, a rise of 10 points or 0.09 percent. Nifty futures were trading around 11,432- level on the Singaporean Exchange.

US stocks rebounded on Thursday with the Dow posting its biggest percentage gain in over four months, as positive earnings and waning trade jitters buoyed investor confidence, said a Reuters report.

Asian shares won a modest reprieve on Friday after China and the United States agreed to hold their first trade talks since June next week and as the Turkish lira extended gains from its record low earlier this week, it said.

Another day of record highs for markets but the momentum fizzled out slightly towards the close. But, benchmark indices did manage to hit a fresh record closing high.

What really stood out for was the listing of HDFC AMC. The stock eventually closed with a gain of 65% on the issue price at 1,100 at Rs 1815.95.

The beginning was upbeat but profit taking in index majors capped upside as the session progressed. Noticeable buying interest in midcap and smallcap pack kept the participants busy.

We may see some consolidation in Nifty around the current level prior to further rise. However, there'll be no shortage of trading opportunities on the stock specific front, thanks to prevailing earnings season.
