The market posted spectacular rally on Wednesday as equity benchmarks ended at record closing high, driven by banks after the government announced a whopping Rs 2.11 lakh crore recapitalisation dose for PSU banks. Infrastructure stocks also boosted sentiment after the Cabinet cleared nearly Rs 7 lakh crore worth highway projects.
The 30-share BSE Sensex closed above psychological 33,000-mark for the first time, rising 435.16 points or 1.33 percent to 33,042.50.
The 50-share NSE Nifty touched an intraday record high of 10,340.55, before closing up 87.70 points or 0.86 percent at 10,295.40.
The market breadth was negative as about three shares declined for every two shares rising on the BSE.
PNB was biggest gainer among largecaps, rising 49 percent. SBI, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank rallied up to 26 percent.
Indiabulls Housing Finance, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes Bank fell 3-6 percent.
Canara Bank, Union Bank, Bank of India, OBC, UCO Bank, Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank rallied 20-35 percent.
Ashoka Buildcon, KNR Construction, Sadbhav Engineering, J Kumar Infraprojects, IRB Infrastructure up 6-10 percent.
Power Finance Corporation, REC, Avenue Supermarts, V-Guard Industries, GVK Power, India Cements, VIP Industries, BHEL and Emami were up 2-8 percent.
Edelweiss Financial, Can Fin Homes, L&T Finance Holdings, Magma Fincorp and Bharat Financial Inclusion fell 1-6 percent.
