The BSE Sensex opened 8.05 points down at 28,345.49, while Nifty50 index opened 4.95 points down at 8,710.65. The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,268 down 85 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,701 down 14 points.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.04% at 12,957 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.30% at 12,597. Asian Paints, Axis Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, Hero MotoCorp and RIL are among the gainers, whereas Tata Steel, Coal India, Tata Motors, ITC, TCS, HDFC Bank and HDFC are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in realty, teleco, oil & gas, pharma, consumer durables and banking sectors, while metal and FMCG sectors are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 0.88% at 15.3750. Out of 1,857 stocks traded on the NSE, 532 declined, 991 advanced and 334 remained unchanged today.
A total of 21 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 18 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. Tata Steel slipped 1.8% to Rs.367. The company had reported a net profit Rs.317 crore for the same quarter a year ago. The company said gross debt for the quarter stood at Rs.81,975 crore.
Suzlon Energy dropped 7% after the company has posted a net loss after taxes, Minority Interest and Share of Profit/(Loss) of Associates of Rs.260 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Net Profit of Rs. 1014.3 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2015.
