SGX Nifty Indicates A Positive Opening For The Indian Markets

SGX Nifty is at 10,755, up 21 points. For today, expect global cues to see some bullishness with the overhang of geopolitical risk lurking as the Government promises to retaliate the Kashmir killings. Nifty saw another volatile session with intraday movements of over 150 points. The Nifty closed in red, down 20 points but the recovery from the lows saw value buying lift the sentiment.



Global Markets: Asian indices opened with a bullish momentum as the Japanese Nikkei traded well over 350 points in early trade. The smart New Year rally witnessed in the US is seeing positive repercussions globally with most Asian indices joining the rally. Better than expected Corporate earnings & low valuations continue to see more emphasis on Asia ex-Japan as investors pour money into equities.

US Markets: US stocks rose sharply on Friday with Dow Jones climbing over 450 points as equities continued to be the most preferred asset class in early 2019. Oil joins rally with supply concerns & global growth prompting bullishness to end at 3 month highs.

FII/DII Data: In Friday’s trading session, FIIs sold 966 crores stock in cash whereas DIIs bought 853 crores worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs sold 1054 crore of Index futures and sold 618 crores worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs bought 131 crores worth of stock futures and bought 427 crores stock options.

FII View: FIIs created bearish positions in derivative segment which is deduced by the fact that they created 13,216 net short contracts in the Index Futures segment while creating 4,552 net long contracts Index Put Options. The long-short ratio in Index Futures currently stands at 1.3x vs 1.4x
