Sensex, Nifty Trade Lacklustre; IT, Auto Stocks Decline

Equity benchmark indices opened on the negative note on Thursday morning trade. However, the stock market erased morning losses to trade flat as buying was seen in Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Yes Bank and Airtel.

The Sensex was up 4 points at 39,035 and the Nifty50 was marginally down 3 points at 11,708. The market breadth was negative on the NSE with 725 shares advancing, 843 shares declining, and 511 remaining unchanged.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki fell 2% in the morning trade after the company reported weak sales numbers for the month ended April 2019. Total domestic sales (PV + LCV) declined by 19% at 133,704 units in April 2019.

Shares of Britannia gained 1% after the company posted healthy set of numbers for Q4FY19 with revenue meeting streets estimates.

Infratel, Yes Bank, and ONGC were among the top gainers, while Tata Motors, Eicher, and Hindalco were among the top losers on the NSE.

On the economy front, Indian’s infrastructure output finally showed improvement for March at 4.7%. The GST collections reached a record high monthly collection in the month of April since the launch of the GST in July 2017.

On the sectoral front, Nifty auto, IT, realty, and metal indices were under pressure, only PSU Bank index is trading in the green.

In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index was trading 31 points lower at 14,858, while the BSE SmallCap index was ruling at 14,605, down 19 points.

The Volatility gauge, India VIX is marginally up 3.80% at 22.65.

The most active stocks on the NSE are Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, Maruti, and Jet Airways
