The Nifty Auto index opened higher in the early morning session, however, due to selling pressure, the index fell again. The index is up 0.35% at 8,798.
Heavy selling pressure was seen in Ashok Leyland, Bharat Forge, Apollo Tyres, M&M, and Maruti Suzuki.
Shares of Tata Motors, Amara Raja, Eicher Motors, TVS Motors, and Bajaj Auto contributed to the index's gain.
Shares of Tata Motors gained 2% after posting 24% higher JLR US sales for the month of December, as per media reports.
Meanwhile, indices erased early morning gains led by declines in ICICI Bank, TCS, HCL Technologies and Infosys. The Sensex is up 34 points at 35,547, and the Nifty50 is marginally up by 9 points at 10,681.

Bajaj Auto Ltd is currently trading at Rs2,719 up by Rs18.6 or 0.69% from its previous closing of Rs2,700.40 on the BSE.
Amara Raja Batteries Ltd is currently trading at Rs721.70 up by Rs8.15 or 1.14% from its previous closing of Rs713.55 on the BSE.
TVS Motor Company Ltd is currently trading at Rs540.50 up by Rs1.9 or 0.35% from its previous closing of Rs538.60 on the BSE.
Ashok Leyland Ltd is currently trading at Rs96.30 down by Rs1.8 or 1.83% from its previous closing of Rs98.10 on the BSE.
Bharat Forge Ltd is currently trading at Rs488 down by Rs0.4 or 0.08% from its previous closing of Rs488.40 on the BSE.
Apollo Tyres Ltd is currently trading at Rs227 down by Rs1.05 or 0.46% from its previous closing of Rs228.05 on the BSE.
