Equity benchmark indices opened flat on Friday amid weak global cues. Bharti Airtel, M&M, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and Hindalco are the top gainers, while IOC, Infosys, Asian Paints, and Dr. Reddy’s have lost the most on the NSE.
Among sectors, Nifty IT index is marginally down, while metal, banking, auto, energy and pharma stocks were trading in the positive zone.
The Sensex is up 30 points at 36,462, while the Nifty marginally up seven points at 10,958. The market breadth is positive as 1,015 shares advanced, while 483 shares declined and 537 shares remained unchanged.
Shares of NDTV are locked in 10% upper circuit after it signed a deal with Taboola, a content discovery platform.
Volatility index India VIX is up 0.71% to 14.43.
The most active stocks were Infosys, IOC, Indiabulls HF, Yes Bank, and UltraTech.
Indian Hume Pipe Company jumped 6% after the company received a work order worth Rs502cr.
PFC and REC gained 1% each after PFC's board approved the acquisition of the government's stake in REC.
Asian stock markets fell and Japanese equities dropped deeper into a bear market, with regional shares on course to round out the worst week since October.
Oil prices gained after tumbling 5% in the last session, with OPEC production cuts that start next month are seen as being larger than previously expected.
