Equity benchmark indices opened higher led by gains in banking, metal and energy shares. Investors exercised caution ahead of the outcome of Federal Reserve's two-day monetary policy meeting.
the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,264, up 267 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,199, up 75 points.
The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices were up 1% and 1.22%, respectively.
Alembic Pharma stock rose 3% after the pharma company reported that the USFDA conducted an inspection at Alembic Pharmaceuticals Formulation Facility located at Panelav from March 12, 2018 to March 20, 2018.
Alkem stock gained 1% after the company received approval for Minocycline Hydrochloride in the strengths of 65mg and 115mg, as per the USFDA website. The Minocycline HCL formulation is available in several strengths and the market for this (branded + generic) is $725mn in 2017. Of this, market for 65mg and 115mg strengths is ~$200mn.
Shares of Tata Consultancy Services may gain today as the company has provided its banking software TCS BaNCS for Saudi Real Estate Refinance Co
Volatility index India VIX slipped 3.62% to 15.4025.
Indiabulls HF (+3%), Airtel (+2.3%), BPCL (+2%), Cipla (+1.8%) and IOC (+1.7%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
Eicher (-1%), Infratel (-0.91%), Tech Mahindra (-0.75%), Hindalco (-0.62%) and Bosch (-0.56%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,005 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,280 advanced, 314 declined and 411 remained unchanged today.
A total of three stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 30 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
