Nifty Above 10,100 Mark; Sensex Reclaims 33k

Equity benchmarks opened lower after the indices were weighed lower by Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank and SBI. However, the stock market has recouped its opening losses and trading marginally higher led by Reliance Industries, Infosys, HDFC twins.

Pharma and realty stocks are the top losers today.

Stocks declined globally on Monday as a technology selloff sent the Nasdaq indexes to the steepest losses in six weeks. A sell-off in shares of Facebook Inc, sparked by the company's regulatory troubles, spread to the broader US equity marketand weighed on sentiment. Facebook was the worst-performing stock on the S&P 500 index, posting its biggest one-day decline since March 2014.

Facebook's stock fell nearly 7% after the European and US lawmakers called for investigations into reports which said that a consultancy that worked on President Donald Trump's campaign gained access to data of 50 million Facebook users.

Asian equity markets were down in an early trade today, taking cues from overnight weakness in US share indices and as investors exercised caution ahead of the Federal Reserve's two-day monetary policy meeting, starting later today.

the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,036, up 114 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,129, up 34 points.

The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices up 0.30% and 0.01%, respectively.

Shares of Vedanta dropped 5% as the stock traded ex-dividend today.

Granules India stock added 1% after the company has received the US health regulator's nod to market its Metformin Extended Release (ER) 500mg and 750mg tablets.

Future Retail stock gained after the company has received approval from the RBI to increase the limit of its Registered Foreign Portfolio Investors to 49% of its paid-up capital.

Volatility index India VIX added 0.42% to 15.8950.

Tata Steel (+3.7%), Infratel (+2.8%), Hindalco (+1.5%) and HPCL (+1.4%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.

Cipla (-5%), Aurobindo (-1%), Bharti Airtel (-1.3%), M&M (-1.3%) and NTPC (-1.2%) were the top losers in today’s trade.

Out of 2,000 stocks traded on the NSE, 602 advanced, 956 declined and 442 remained unchanged today.

A total of three stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 92 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
