Sensex and Nifty were volatile on Tuesday morning, just after opening at record highs. Bank Nifty lost steam, along with metal and pharma indices. Only the IT index continued to soar on the back of a weaker rupee.
At 10:08AM, Dalal street was trading at 38,291 levels, up 13 points, while NSE was trading up 7 points, at 11,559 levels.
Tech Mahindra was the top winner on the NSE, posting an over 3% gain, followed by UPL, Coal India, GAIL and Wipro, which surged by over 1%. These gains were offset by losses in Titan and BPCL, which registered an over 1% decline.
With respect to stocks, Vadilal Industries was down 5% after investor Ashish Kacholia offloaded 5% stake. Mumbai-based airline Jet Airways’ stock fell after media reports indicated that the corporate affairs ministry is probing the airline for an allegation of siphoning off funds.
Meanwhile, the market breadth was positive with 817 shares advancing, 767 shares declining, and 483 shares remaining unchanged.
