It has been a terrific Tuesday for the markets as benchmark indices scaled new heights. Sensex rose over 150 points, touching 38,863 levels, while Nifty touched the 11,750 mark for the first time, up 50 points.
All of NSE’s sectoral indices, except the PSU Bank index, were trading in the green, with metal and pharma surging over 1%.
The market breadth was buoyant, with 976 shares advancing, 583 shares declining, and 491 shares remaining unchanged.
The top winners were NTPC (+3%), GAIL, Cipla (+2%), Coal India, Vedanta, and Hindalco (+1% each). These gains were offset by losses in Yes Bank (-1%), Titan, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Auto (-0.5% each).
Moreover, a total of 33 securities registered a 52-week high on the NSE, while 25 securities posted a 52-week low.
The India rupee also opened on a buoyant note by 14 paise at 70.02 per dollar on Tuesday vs. a close of 70.16 on Monday evening.
Dalal street and Nifty have been rallying amid positive global cues, as US stocks surged amid the country's agreeement with Mexico to overhaul the NAFTA.
