SGX Nifty is at 10665 levels, down 19 points. For today, we expect oil related plays to outperform today, as Brent crude hits 11 month lows and should see more gains in rupee, yields, and sentiment.
Yesterday, Nifty ended the day at lows, as global weakness crept into the markets with most investors both foreign and local booking profit. Rupee hit a 3-month high as positive talks between the Finance Ministry & Central bank sent confidence in the currency.
Global markets: Asian indices opened lower following weak cues from the US as technology and energy stocks dragged the indices. The Japanese Nikkei was trading lower by over 200 points, as energy stocks dragged the index following the sharp selloff in crude oil prices. For today, expect some pull back from most Asian indices in second half as markets seem extremely over sold and ripe for a pull back.
US markets: Dow Jones flirts with correction, as index corrects almost 10% from September highs. Facebook, Apple lead the decline, seeing over 20% fall from highs as technology and social media stocks see downturn. Oil falls another 7% and drags energy stocks lower with Brent prices falling over 28% from high of $ 86.29 (October 03, 2018) to $ 61.71 hit today.
FII/DII Data: In yesterday’s trading session, FIIs sold 753cr stock in the cash market, whereas DIIs sold 44cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs bought 170cr of Index futures and sold 738cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs sold 573cr worth of stock futures and sold 235cr stock options.
FII View: Bullish positions were created by FIIs in the yesterday’s trading session. They created 905 long contracts, while simultaneously reduced 1918 short contracts in Index Futures.
