The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 24,695 up 49 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,500 up 15 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.38% at 10,263, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.65% at 10,352. BHEL, Tata Steel, Lupin, ONGC, GAIL, ITC and HDFC are among the gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, HUL, TCS, SBI, Asian Paints and Hero MotoCorp are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in metal, realty, oil and gas, pharma and basic utilities sectors, while banking, IT sectors are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 5.48% at 18.8625. Out of 1,801 stocks traded on the NSE, 553 declined, 955 advanced and 553 remained unchanged today. A total of 13 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 15 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The Indian rupee opened lower by 13 paise at 67.21/$ on Tuesday as against previous close of 67.08/$. On Moday, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, forex and money markets are closed on account of Maha Shivratri. All wholesale commodity markets, including metal, are also closed. Eveready Industries soared 4.4% to Rs.242 on BSE. The company is planning to make a foray into home appliances sector. The company is in the process of launching a range of electrical and non-electrical appliances. Ajanta Pharma climbed 2.9% to Rs.1437 on BSE.
The pharma company has announced that it has received US FDA nod for Almotriptan Malate tablets. Strides Shasun jumped 5.4% to Rs.1,090 on BSE. The pharma company has entered into an agreement with Moberg Pharma, Sweden and its affiliates to acquire Jointflex, Fergon and Vanquish brands for a total consideration of $10 million plus inventory value at closing. Elecon Engineering Company surged 6.2% to Rs.56 on BSE. The company has informed BSE that it has been awarded a prestigious order from Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited for supply of Marine Gearboxes aggregating worth of Rs. 225 crores.
