SGX Nifty is 11758, up 21 points. Nifty saw a quiet start turn into a stronger than expected rally on Monday with the index closing just shy of 11700.

Better than expected results from TCS saw IT stocks led the rally along with metals and auto. Metal stocks were the clear winners of the day as the index rose over 2.25%. Profit booking was witnessed in PSU banks, pharma, and media.

Global market: Asian markets opened in the green led by the Japanese Nikkei, which held onto big gains of yesterday and saw some more gains in early trade today. This came in even as there is still no clarity on the final outcome of US-China trade talks. Hence, most Chinese stocks saw sell-off yesterday as profit booking emerged as investors ran out of patience.

US Market: US stocks closed with marginal losses as traders’ book profit ahead of earnings season. Oil prices see weakness as supply outstrips demand with US inventories rising higher than expected. Bank stocks see volatility ahead of large results due this week.

FII/DII Data: In yesterday’s trading session FIIs bought 713cr worth of stock in cash, whereas DIIs bought 581cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs sold 222cr of Index futures and bought 1293cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs sold 270cr worth of stock futures and sold 170cr stock options.

FII View: In Index future segment, FIIs index future long/short ratio continued to trend lower, currently stands at 1.6x vs 1.7x on account of marginal addition of short positions. On the Index option’s front, FII’s created long Vega positions by position a buying figure to the tune of 28883 contracts in index call options and 21901 contracts in index put options, expecting a rise in the volatility going forward.
