The IT, realty telecom, consumer durables, metal, pharma and capital goods were among the top gainers. On the other hand, banking, auto and utilities stocks ended with losses. The India VIX (Volatility) index was marginally up 5.69% to 16.9475.
Infosys, Idea Cellular, BPCL, Ultra TechCement, Bharti Infratel, Yes Bank and Cipla were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Bank Of Baroda, GAIL, ONGC, SBI, Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj-Auto were among the losers today.
India's wholesale prices fell for the 17th straight month in March, though the decline was marginal. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation declined to -0.85% as compared to -2.33% from a year ago and -0.91% recorded in February.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,788 up 162 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,898 up 48 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 1% at 11,025, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.90% at 11,041.
