Indices were trading in the negative zone as losses were seen in ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, ITC, M&M, TCS, and Sun Pharma came under selling pressure.Benchmark indices were trading higher in the afternoon trade, backed by metals and oil retailers.
the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,775, up 28 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,388, up 28 points.
Shares of IDBI Bank extended gains for the fifth consecutive session and rose 2% after the bank sold 312,897 shares, or 1.2% stake, in Punjab Alkalies & Chemicals at Rs27.90 a piece in a bulk deal on the BSE.
Jubilant FoodWorks shares gained 1% as the company has entered into a share subscription and shareholders' agreement for a joint venture with Golden Harvest QSR Limited to operate Domino's Pizza restaurants in Bangladesh.
Shares of Punjab National Bank recovered and were up following Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's positive comments on the bank.
Shares of Vakrangee were locked in the 5% upper circuit extending gains for the second consecutive session.
On Nifty50, the Media Index gained the most led by companies like TV18 Broadcast (+4.8%), Network 18 (+4.3%) and Sun TV (+3%). Metal Sector has also gained over 1%. Only FMCG and PSU Banking Sector are partially in red.
On BSE Sensex, Hindalco is the volume topper with a TTQ of 2,431,234 followed by PNB, Wipro and PowerGrid.
HDFC alone contributed 42 points in the gain of 75 points on BSE Sensex, others being IndusInd Bank (17 points) and Infosys (11 points).
The BSE MidCap Index gained 0.71% and the BSE SmallCap Index gained 0.22%.
Volatility index India VIX slipped 2.84% at 14.9575.
Indiabulls Housing Finance (+3%), Zee Entertainment (+3%), BPCL (+2.9%), Aurobindo Pharma (+2.8%) and IOC (+2.5%) were top gainers on Nifty50.
Bharti Infratel (-2.2%), M&M (-1.4%), Lupin (-1.3%), Bosch (-1.1%) and Sun Pharma (-1%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,015 stocks traded on Nifty, 871 advanced, 792 declined and 352 remained unchanged.
A total of 11 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 55 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
