The BSE Sensex opened 106.65 points at 28,289.22, while Nifty50 index opened 16.45 points up at 8727.80. The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,121 down 62 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,690 down 21 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.31% at 12,785, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.26% at 12,361.
Lupin, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, ONGC, NTPC and Bharti Airtel are among the gainers, whereas ITC, TCS, Bajaj Auto, HDFC, Infosys and RIL are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in utilities, pharma and oil & gas sectors, while IT, realty, consumer durables,FMCG, banking and telecom showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.66% at 14.6850. Out of 1,817 stocks traded on the NSE, 634 declined, 770 advanced and 413 remained unchanged today. A total of 45 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while five stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
Lupin soared 2% to Rs.1,724. The pharma company will announce its Q1 result today. Idea Cellular Ltd dropped 4.6% to Rs.98.35 on BSE. The company posted a net profit after tax of Rs. 2204.19 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs. 8548.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2015.
HDFC slipped 0.69% to Rs.1358. The boards of HDFC Life Insurance Co. Ltd and Max Life Insurance Co. Ltd on Monday signed off on their merger, which will create India’s largest private sector insurer.
Tata Motors soared 1% to Rs.518. Tata Motors Group global wholesales in July 2016, including Jaguar Land Rover, were at 88,159 nos., higher by 20%, over July 2015. Cumulative wholesales for the fiscal were 3,49,413 nos., higher by 14%, over 2015-16.
