The BSE Sensex plunged over 200 points in the afternoon deal cracking below the psychologically important 28k mark due to heavy selling in auto, pharma, energy, telecom, utilities and consumer durables. The BSE Sensex opened 48.20 points up at 28,133.36, while NSE Nifty opened 8.45 points up at 8,686.70.

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,806 down 279 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,582 down 97 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 1.03% at 12,648 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.98% at 12,217.

Adani Ports, TCS, Coal India and Jubilant Life Sciences and Tata Chemical are among the gainers, whereas Lupin, M&M, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors and RIL are losing sheen on BSE.

All BSE sectoral indices were trading in the negative territory. The INDIA VIX is up 2.51% at 14.9025. Out of 1,851 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,143 declined, 445 advanced and 263 remained unchanged today.

A total of 45 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 16 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The Indian rupee opened higher by 16 at 66.68/$ against US Dollar Wednesday as against the previous close of 66.84/$.

Motherson Sumi Systems dropped 5.1% to Rs.334.60. The company has posted a net profit of Rs.4393.60 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs. 3793.80 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2015.

Mahindra & Mahindra slipped over 2% despite the company reported 12% rise in standalone net profit at Rs 955.21 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 against Rs 850.09 crore in the same quarter last year. Jubilant Life Sciences surged 8% to Rs.370 after it reported 25.85% rise in consolidated net profit at Rs.164.02 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 against Rs.130.33 crore in the same quarter last year.
