The BSE Sensex on Monday was trading flat but above its crucial 28,000 level, while the broader Nifty also managed to hold above its key 8,650 mark. The BSE Sensex opened 11.07 points up at 28,088.07, while Nifty opened 0.10 points up at 8,667.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,015 down 62 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,639 down 27 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.18% at 13,012 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.14% at 12,442.
The appointment of Urjit Patel as the new RBI governor indicates the government’s intention to maintain policy continuity. Patel is known to have very little tolerance for inflation overshooting the RBI’s comfort zones. With the next policy review due on October 4, any rate cut hopes have dimmed.
Adani Ports, GAIL, ITC, HUL, Cipla, NTPC, Bajaj Auto are among the gainers, whereas Lupin, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, TCS and Axis Bank are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in realty, consumer durables, utilities and FMCG sectors, while auto, industrial, banking, capital goods and metal showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.94% at 14.6750.Out of 1,844 stocks traded on the NSE, 751 declined, 712 advanced and 381 remained unchanged today.
A total of 54 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 10 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. Some of important earning announcements are scheduled HPCL, NTPC, Tata Power are prominent name from the list of corporates, who will announce their numbers.
Tata Power Company Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 78.8, up by Rs. 0.85 or 1.09% from its previous closing of Rs. 77.95 on the BSE. Tata Power's 50:50 joint venture with Exxaro Resources in South Africa, Cennergi (Pty) announced commencement of commercial operations for its 95 MW Tsitsikamma Community wind farm project.
