The Sensex opened 66 points up at 28,069.12, while Nifty opened 10.90 points up at 8,647.45. The Sensex surged over 100 points to trade above its crucial psychological level of 28,000, while the broader Nifty topped its key 8,650-mark.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,130 up 127 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,676 up 40points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.47% at 12,768, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.25% at 12,352.
ITC, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and M&M are among the gainers, whereas GAIL, HDFC, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank and Wipro are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in FMCG, auto, pharma, banking, industrial and IT sectors, while metal, utilities, power and basic materials showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.51% at 15.2575. Out of 1,831 stocks traded on the NSE, 595 declined, 835 advanced and 401 remained unchanged today. A total of 41 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 11 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The Indian rupee opened lower by 3 paise at 67.04/$ against US Dollar Tuesday as against the previous close of 66.74/$. Asian markets are trading mixed. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 slipped 0.69%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng trading higher by 1.4%. Shanghai Composite is marginally up.
