The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,218 up 140 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,719 up 35 points. The Indian stock market opened higher on Monday tracking firm global cues. The NSE Nifty hits at 16-month high on Monday. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.42% at 12,752, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.68% at 12,391.

Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, HDFC, ITS, Axis Bank, Adani Ports and Maruti Suzuki are among the gainers, whereas Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Sun Pharmaceuticals and TCS are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in oil & gas, metal, energy, consumer durables and realty sectors, while telecom is showing weakness on BSE.

The INDIA VIX is down 0.03% at 14.3475. Out of 1,818 stocks traded on the NSE, 435 declined, 1,007 advanced and 376 remained unchanged today. A total of 45 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while five stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The Indian rupee opened higher by seven paise at 66.85/$ against US Dollar Monday as against the previous close of 66.92/$. Asian markets are trading higher. The Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng trading up by 1.5% each. Shanghai Composite is marginally up.

US stocks closed sharply higher on Friday. Thee S&P and the Nasdaq posting their strongest close ever after a stronger-than-expected jobs report. The Dow Jones industrial average closed 1.04% higher, at 18,543.53 points. The S&P 500 rose 0.86% and Nasdaq rose 1.06%.
