The BSE Sensex opened 31.22 points up at 28,083.08, while NSE Nifty opened 15.80 points up at 8,654.30. The Nifty hits 8,700 mark for the first time since April 16, 2015. The market rallied on strong buying in metal, energy, auto and capital goods stocks.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 28,246 up 194 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,702 up 64 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 1.20% at 12,813, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.85% at 12,415.
Tata Steel, TCS, Axis Bank, Wipro, Bajaj Auto and Asian Paints are among the gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, Lupin, Nestle India, Future Enterprises and ICICI Bank are losing sheen on BSE. All the BSE sectoral indices were trading in the positive territory. Some buying activity is seen in metal, auto, basic materials, telecom, oil & gas, power and capital goods sectors.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.88% at 15.0500. Out of 1,829 stocks traded on the NSE, 355 declined, 1,117 advanced and 357 remained unchanged today. A total of 70 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while nine stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The Indian rupee opened higher by 22 paise at 66.80/$ against US Dollar Monday as against the previous close of 67.02/$. Asian markets are trading mixed. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.49%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng trading higher by 1.4%. Shanghai Composite is trading in red.
