The BSE Sensex dipped below the 35,000-level led by metal, realty, capital goods, banking and oil & gas stocks amid a global rout in equity marketsEquity benchmarks fell 2%, dragged down by weakness in HDFC twins, L&T and ICICI Bank.
the BSE Sensex was trading at 34,740, down 327 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,669, down 91 points. All sectoral indices were in the red today.
Nifty Bank index fell over 1% dragged down by weakness in Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank and ICICI Bank.
Tata Motors shares rose 2% ahead of its December quarter earnings due later today.
United Breweries stock gained 5% after the company's revenues up 17% at Rs1197cr vs Rs1022 cr.
GMR Infrastructure gained over 3.5% as the company is going to acquire 11% stake in GMR Hyderabad International Airport.
Union Bank of India shares fell 2% after it reported a loss of Rs1,249.85cr against profit of Rs104cr a year ago.
The BSE MidCap Index slipped 0.85% and the BSE SmallCap Index fell 1.15%.
Volatility index India VIX gained 2.93% at 15.6975.
Bharti Airtel (+4.5%), Tata Motors (+2%), Power Grid (+1.9%), Coal India (+1.6%) and ITC (+1.6%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
HDFC (-3.9%), IndusInd Bank (-2.7%), L&T (-2.6%), Bajaj Fin (-2%) and Adani Ports (-2.1%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,044 stocks traded on the NSE, 436 advanced, 1,272declined and 336 remained unchanged today.
A total of 11 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 134 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
