Dalal street witnessed a positive start on Tuesday, with Nifty trading above 10,550 levels and Sensex up 200 points. This was in-line with its Asian counterparts, which showed a modest bounce-back after a week of heavy losses. Tensions between Saudi Arabia and the US over the case of a missing journalist and the possible geo-political fallout of this continued to trouble investors.
Sensex was trading at 35,109 levels, up 244 points, while Nifty was trading at 10,572 levels, up 60 points.
Shares of Infosys were trading 1% higher as the IT giant gears up to announce its Q2FY19 results later today.
Almost all of NSE’s sectoral indices were trading in the green, with auto, PSU Bank, realty gaining over 1%. Only the IT stock dipped and was trading in the red.
Among stocks, IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, and M&M led the winners’ brigade advancing over 1%. Conversely, Infratel and HCL Tech lost over 1%.
The market breadth, meanwhile, was positive with 1247 stocks advancing, 312 stocks declining, and 474 stocks remaining unchanged.
As indicated in media reports that RIL is all set to buy a stake in Hathway Cable & Datacom and DEN Networks, shares of both companies rose 6% and 4%, respectively.
What’s more, a total of 20 stocks were trading on a 52-week high, while 45 stocks were trading at their 52-week lows.
Further, the Indian rupee opened marginally higher at 73.80 per dollar. This was as opposed to a close of 73.83 on Monday.
