Markets posted a strong opening on robust global cues. Nifty opened above the 10,650 mark, while Sensex was trading much higher by 400 points. However, it soon pared gains.

The indices were tracking their global counterparts, as Asian equities climbed tracking the rebound on Wall Street. This was mainly attributed to upbeat US earnings data from major companies like UnitedHealth and Goldman Sachs. These gains in US equities did make emerging markets optimistic.

D-street was then trading up 274 points at 35,437 levels, while NSE was trading at 10,661 levels, up 77 points.

All of Nifty’s sectoral indices were trading in the green, with IT and PSU Bank higher over 1%.

Among stocks, Infosys, Eicher Motors and GAIL led the winners’ brigade, rising over 2%. They were followed by Hindustan Unilever, ICICI bank, and State Bank of India, which gained 1%. The losers were led by Indiabulls Housing Finance, which plummeted over 5.5%, followed by BPCL which lost over 1%.

Infosys gained over 2% as investors cheered the firm’s positive results, while Reliance Industries was marginally high ahead of its Q2FY19 results.

The market breadth, meanwhile, was positive with 1240 stocks advancing, 296 stocks declining, and 484 stocks remaining unchanged.
Also, on the NSE, 2 securities were trading at their 52-week high, while 14 securities were at their 52-week lows.

The rupee opened marginally higher by 5 paise and was trading at 73.43 against the dollar. During yesterday’s close, the rupee was trading at 73.48.
