The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty closed down for the second consecutive session on Friday. The BSE Sensex opened at 24,882, touched an intra-day high of 24,913 and low of 24,422. It finally ended with a loss of 318 points at 24, 455.
The NSE Nifty opened at 7,562 hitting a high of 7,567 and low of 7,427, before ending with a loss of 99 points at 7,438. The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 1.37% to 18.6050.
On the global front, Asian stock market closed down. China's CSI 300 index cracked 3.3% Hang Seng closed down 1.6%. In Europe, the FTSE 100 marginally down 0.7%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were down 1% each.
BPCL, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Dr. Reddy's, Infosys, RIL, IndusInd Bank and Maruti Suzuki were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Vedanta, Cairn India, Idea Cellular, PNB, SBI, GAIL, BHEL, NTPC and Tata Power were among the losers today. The rupee trading at 67.78 down 0.59% from its previous close of 67.29. Out of 1,789 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,418 declined and 160 advanced today.
