Nifty Ends Below 7,300

The Indian equity market opened higher in morning trade and closed lower after China stock markets turned lower and oil prices gave up the day’s rally. The BSE Sensex opened at 24,195, touched an intra-day high of 24,352 and low of 23,862. It finally ended with a loss of 100 points at 23,962.

The NSE Nifty opened at 7,377 hitting a high of 7,399 and low of 7,250, before ending with a loss of 33 points at 7,277. The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 0.72% to 20.8125.

On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed down 3.3% and Hang Seng closed slipped 1.8%. In Europe, the FTSE 100 marginally up. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were trading flat.

Axis Bank, UltraTech Cement, Ambuja Cement, Bank of Baroda, Tata Steel, Infosys and State Bank of India were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Dr Reddy's, ONGC, Coal India, Idea Cellular and Cipla were among the losers today.

The Indian Rupee was trading down 3 paise at 67.97 per US dollar. Among sectors - the Pharma and MNC was down 2% each. The CNX Auto index tanked 2% to 7,259. Out of 1,305 stocks traded on the NSE, 567 declined and 692 advanced today. A total of five stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 93 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
