The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty fell for the second consecutive session on Tuesday ahead of the release of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for December and CPI Inflation data. The BSE Sensex opened at 24,863, touched an intra-day high of 24,882 and low of 24,597. It finally ended with a loss of 143 points at 24,682.
The NSE Nifty opened at 7,587 hitting a high of 7,588 and low of 7,488, before ending with a loss of 54 points at 7,510. The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 0.13% to 18.6650. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed down 1.2% and Hang Seng closed down 2.6%.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 marginally up. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were up 1% each. NTPC, Wipro, M&M, Adani Ports, HUL, bhel, Sun Pharmaceuticals, L&T, Cipla and Coal India were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Idea Cellular, PNB, Yes Bank, Bank of Baroda, Hindalco, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank were among the losers today.
The rupee trading at 67.05 down 0.13% from its previous close of 66.79. Out of 1,456 stocks traded on the NSE, 913 declined and 489 advanced today. A total of 80 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 45 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
