The key indices were trading flat due to profit-booking in IT stocks amid weak Asian cues. Meanwhile, the Sensex and Nifty recovered. The Indian stock market opened marginally higher on Friday. The BSE Sensex opened 11.20 points up at 27,721, while NSE Nifty opened 9.55 points up at 8,519.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,670 down 47 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,498 down 12 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.47% at 12,215, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.37% at 12,055.
ITC, GAIL, Power Grid, Tata Motors, Asian Paints, L&T and M&M are among the gainers, whereas SBI, Tata Steel, Infosys, Wipro, Bajaj Auto, Coal India, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Axis Bank and Adani Ports are losing sheen on BSE. Some buying activity is seen in utilities, power, auto, capital goods, consumer durables and realty sectors, while metal, banking, IT, finance, oil & gas, energy and teck are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is down 0.33% at 15.6600. Out of 1,830 stocks traded on the NSE, 664 declined, 854 advanced and 332 remained unchanged today. A total of 39 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 13 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. Reliance Defence and Engineering Limited jumped 2.7% after the company signed Sub-Concession Agreement with Gujarat Maritime Board and Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The SCA is for a period of 30 years expiring in June 2046.
