The BSE Sensex opened 84.16 points up at 27,920.66, while NSE Nifty opened 22.65 points up at 8,564.05. The Sensex and Nifty pared their early gains on emergence of fresh selling in consumer durables, PSU, infrastructure and oil & gas stocks amid firm European cues.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,904 up 68 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,555 up 14 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.03% at 12,122, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.20% at 12,003. Bajaj Auto, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors and Asian Paints are among the gainers, whereas ONGC, Bharti Airtel, HDFC, Wipro and Cipla are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in auto, realty, industrial, banking, capital goods, energy and finance sectors, while telecom, oil & gas, utilities, IT, consumer durables sectors, power and pharma are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 2.30% at 15.9975. Out of 1,840 stocks traded on the NSE, 737 declined, 841 advanced and 262 remained unchanged today.
A total of 69 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 17 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The Indian rupee opened lower by eight paise at 67.15/$ against US Dollar Monday as against the previous close of 67/.07$. MindTree slipped 1% to Rs.629.55 on BSE. The IT company will announce its Q1 result today.
Asian markets are trading mixed. Japan's Nikkei gained 0.68%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.5% and Shanghai Composite are trading marginally lower. US stocks closed mixed on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday sought the Opposition's cooperation in the passage of GST Bill. The Opposition is set to target the government over developments in Arunachal Pradesh and Kashmir during parliament's monsoon session starting today.
