The Sensex and Nifty slips nearly 0.5% due to heavy selling in IT and Teck stocks amid firm Asian cues. The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,795 down 147 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,529 down 26 points.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.47% at 12,172, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.29% at 12,034. Adani Ports, M&M, Tata Motors, HUL and Tata Steel are among the gainers, whereas Infosys, TCS, NTPC, Wipro, ICICI Bank and ONGC are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in consumer durables, auto, telecom, realty, FMCG and pharma sectors, while IT, teck, power and banking sectors are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 1.87% at 15.9025. Out of 1,828 stocks traded on the NSE,959 declined, 566 advanced and 303 remained unchanged today.
A total of 54 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 10 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. Infosys tumbled 8% to Rs.1080.70 on BSE. The consolidated net profit dropped 4.4% to Rs.3,436 crore in Q1 FY17 as against Rs.3,597 crore in Q4 FY16.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) dropped 1% to Rs.2494.9 post Q1 FY17 results. The dollar revenue grew by 3.7%. The company registered a net profit of Rs.6,317 crore, up 9.9% yoy but down 0.4% qoq. Shares of Bank of Baroda were trading higher 1.1% at Rs.165.50 on BSE today. Around 87.62 lakh shares were traded in a multiple block at Rs.165.7-166.5 on the BSE.
DCB Bank slipped 4.4% to Rs.100.30. The bank posted net profit of Rs.47.01 crore for the first quarter ended June, which was marginally up from Rs.46.87 crore posted in the corresponding quarter of FY16.
