The BSE Sensex opened 64.18 points up at 27980.07, while Nifty opened 16.85 points up at 8,582.70. The market opened marginally higher but slipped into the negative zone despite positive global cues. Sentiment also remained buoyant as a good monsoon season so far lifted hopes of a revival in farm output as well as income and on optimism over the GST bill’s passage. The market will focus on ECB rate-setting meeting later today.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,891 down 24 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,571 up mere four points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.68% at 12,264, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.65% at 12,105. Adani Ports, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, ONGC and Bajaj-Auto are among the gainers, whereas Axis Bank, Dr.Reddy's, PowerGrid, Tata Steel, M&M, Infosys and L&T are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in oil and gas, realty, pharma, FMCG, energy, consumer durables, telecom and auto sectors, while power, IT, capital goods, banking, metal, utilities and teck are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is down 0.81% at 15.8600. Out of 1,827 stocks traded on the NSE, 585 declined, 921 advanced and 585 remained unchanged today. A total of 70 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 15 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The Indian rupee opened lower by three paise at 67.22/$ against US Dollar Thursday as against the previous close of 67.19/$. Asian markets are trading mixed. Japan's Nikkei gained 1%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite are trading in green.
