The Indian stock markets opened a tad higher despite mixed global cues and disappointing quarterly results from Wipro.The BSE Sensex opened 11.92 points down at 27,775.70, while NSE Nifty opened 13.10 points down at 8,515.45.
The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,880 up 92 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,545 up 16 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.54% at 12,140, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.52% at 11,974.
PowerGrid,Hero MotoCorp, Coal India, HDFC Bank, Dr.Reddy's, GAIL and Bajaj-Auto are among the gainers, whereas Wipro, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, Axis Bank and Adani Ports are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in realty, pharma, oil and gas, energy, utilities, power, industrial, FMCG, capital goods and banking sectors, while IT, telecom and teck are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 0.09% at 15.8100. Out of 1,830 stocks traded on the NSE, 470 declined, 1,009 advanced and 351 remained unchanged today.
A total of 43 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 12 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The Indian rupee opened lower by five paise at 67.15/$ against US Dollar Wednesday as against the previous close of 67.10/$.
Asian markets are trading mixed. Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.73%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.73% and Shanghai Composite is trading in red. US markets closed mixed on weak quarterly results from Netflix Inc. S&P 500 at 2,163 points closed down 0.14%.
