The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 23,779 up 70 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,225 up 14 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.61% at 9,862, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.32% at 9,908.
Some buying activity is seen in energy, telecom, pharma, oil and gas, consumer durable, realty and capital goods sectors, while consumer durables, FMCG, utilities, IT and power sector are showing weakness on BSE. HUL, RIL, Sun Pharma, Cipla, Bharti Airtel, Dr.Reddy's and ONGC are among the gainers, whereas ITC, Adani Ports, Maruti Suzuki, Wipro, GAIL, ICICI Bank and Tata Motors are losing sheen on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 1.12% at 21.1500. Out of 1,798 stocks traded on the NSE, 574 declined, 892 advanced and 332 remained unchanged today. A total of seven stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 35 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
Indian Rupee opened lower by 14 paise at 68.60/$ in early trade on Monday as against the previous close of 68.46/$. On Friday, Indian Forex markets were inactive on Friday on account of a public holiday. However, the domestic unit weakened further in the overseas NDF markets. Strength in US dollar against the basket of major currencies is taking a toll on the emerging pack as well.
ElectroSteel Steels Ltd stock was higher by 11% at Rs. 3.78.Report says that lenders have opted for non-SDR route for the company.
