The BSE Sensex opened at 24,637, touched an intra-day high of 24,699 and low of 24,261. It finally ended with a loss of 330 points at 24,287. The NSE Nifty opened at 7,490 hitting a high of 7,513 and low of 7,363, before ending with a loss of 102 points at 7,387.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 11.82% to 20.2575. Out of 1,794 stocks traded on the NSE, 816 declined and 723 advanced today. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed down 0.62% and Hang Seng closed marginally up.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 down 1.7%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were down 2% each. Bank of Baroda, Bosch, SBI, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Lupin and ACC were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Tata Motors, ONGC, IndusInd Bank, Vedanta, Kotak Mahindra Bank, TCS and ITC were among the losers today. The Indian Rupee was trading with a loss of 25 paise at 67.88 per US dollar.
