The BSE Sensex opened at 24,868, touched an intra-day high of 24,929 and low of 24,461. It finally ended with a loss of 285 points at 24,539. The NSE Nifty opened at 7,567 hitting a high of 7,576.30 and low of 7,428, before ending with a loss of 100 points at 7,456.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 0.87% to 18.0350. Out of 1,790 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,168 declined and 366 advanced today. On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index closed up 2% and Hang Seng closed marginally down 0.7%.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 down 1.7%. On the other hand, DAX and the CAC 40 were down 1.5% each. Bharti Airtel, Bajaj-Auto, Lupin, Dr.Reddy's, HUL, HDFC and ITC were among the gainers on NSE, whereas Vedanta, Tata Steel, Cairn India, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharmaceuticals and Zee Entertainment were among the losers today.
The Indian Rupee was trading with a loss of 12 paise at 67.96 per US dollar. A total of 23 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 22 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
