The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 23,197 up 221 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,042 up 72 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.43% at 9,585, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.25% at 9,574.
Coal India, SBI, Axis Bank, L&T, Cipla and M&M are among the gainers, whereas Hero Moto Corp, Bajaj-Auto, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Dr.Reddy's are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in IT, capital goods, FMCG, banking, industrial and finance sectors, while oil and gas, power, pharma and auto sectors are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is down 3.09% at 22.0400. Out of 1,786 stocks traded on the NSE, 822 declined, 649 advanced and 315 remained unchanged today. A total of eight stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 125 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The Indian rupee opened slightly higher by 1 paisa at 68.73/$ on Friday as against previous close of 68.72/$. Yesterday, the US dollar was seen easing against a basket of currencies as declining oil prices and fears of a potential British exit from the European Union continued to worry investor sentiment. In international markets, British Pound continues to struggle, with values now close to 1.39 levels.
