Equity benchmark is trading in a negative zone ahead of exit polls after the second phase of Gujarat elections today. TCS, Bajaj Fin, GAIL and Ambuja were down between 0.9% and 2.5%.
Equity benchmarks pared some early gains on Thursday as investors eagerly awaited exit polls results later today after the end of second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections. Wholesale price inflation data for November will also be released today noon.
the BSE Sensex was trading at 32,938, slipping 115 points, while the broader Nifty50 index was trading at 10,162, down 31 points.
The selling pressure was broad-based as the BSE Midcap Index fell 0.59% and the BSE Smallcap Index declined 0.83%.
Shares of Sandur Manganese gained 3% after the Karnataka state government raised iron ore mining cap from 30 million tonnes to 35 million tonnes.
Shares of Tata Comm rose 2% after the company said it will transfer surplus land to Hemisphere Properties, which will be listed on stock exchanges subsequently.
Prataap Snacks stock zoomed 2% after the company reported 143% jump in its Q2 net profit at Rs12.9cr against Rs5.3cr in the same quarter last fiscal.
Shares of Ruchi Soya were trading 13.5% down after the company informed bourses that IDBI Bank declared it as a wilful defaulter.
All the sectors are trading lower on the NSE.
PSU Bank, Media, Metal, Realty, Auto and Bank Nifty Index were the top losers on the NSE.
Dr. Reddy’s (+1.8%), HCL Tech (+1.5%), Tech Mahindra (+1.4%), M&M (+1%) and HPCL (+0.89%) were the top gainers on the Nifty50.
TCS (-2.7%), Bajaj Finance (-1.9%), UPL (-1.94%), GAIL (-1.5%) and Bosch (-1.1%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
India VIX gained 4.71%.
Out of 1,987 stocks traded on the NSE, 413 advanced, 1,218 declined and 356 remained unchanged today.
A total of 37 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 20 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
