Equity benchmarks were trading firmly higher led by gains in TCS, Infosys, State Bank of India and Reliance Industries. All sectors on the BSE were trading higher led by the IT Index.Domestic benchmark indices were up in trade led by gains in information technology and infrastructure stocks. Shares of Tata Consultancy Services were the best performers, up 2.1% among the information technology stocks. Nifty IT was up 1%.
BSE Sensex was trading at 33,910, up 153 points and the broader Nifty50 Index was ruling at 10,479, up 39 points.
In broader markets, the BSE Miidcap and BSE Smallcap indices were up 0.02% and 0.47%, respectively.
The Nifty Metal Index snapped a six-session winning streak and fell nearly 1% due to profit booking.
Shares of Adani Transmission and Adani Power hit multi-month highs today as the recent purchase of Reliance Infrastructure's power business in Mumbai boosted sentiment for the Adani group.
Shares of Fertilisers & Chemicals Travancore extended gains for the sixth consecutive session on reports that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kerala government to set up a Rs18bn petrochemical park in Kochi.
ONGC (+2.74%), TCS (+2.2%), Bajaj Finance (+1.9%), Infosys (+1.8%) and Wipro (+1.3%) were the top gainers on the Nifty50.
UltraTech (-1.38%), Lupin (-0.92%), Dr. Reddy’s (-0.75%), Coal India (-0.73%), Vedanta (-0.73) were the top losers in today’s trade.
India VIX dropped 3.51%.
Out of 1,994 stocks traded on the NSE, 965 advanced, 717 declined and 312 remained unchanged today.
A total of 128 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while four stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
