The BSE Sensex opened at 25,682, touched an intra-day low of 25,553, and finally ended with a gain of 402 points at 25,720. Strong gains were seen in auto, banking, metal, consumer durables and IT. The NSE Nifty opened at 7,806 hitting a low of 7,765 before signing off with a gain of 130 points or 1.7% at 7,819.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 1.08% at 24.30. It hit a high of 24.65 and a low of 21.35. All the sectors closed up on NSE. CNX Metal rallied 3.3% to 1,804. CNX Auto and CNX Media were also up around 2% each, while CNX Pharma index ends marginally higher 0.2% at 12,355. Back to equities, the CNX Nifty Junior and the CNX Midcap indices rallied around 2% each to 19,384 and 12,638, respectively, while the CNX Smallcap index gained 2.5% to 5,038.
