Sensex, Nifty Extend Gains

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,966 up 260 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,896 up 67 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.14% at 10,586, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.02% at 10,731.

Some buying activity is seen in banking, pharma, auto, IT, metal, fmcg and teck sectors, while consumer durables, oil & gas and capital goods sectors are showing weakness on BSE. The India VIX (Volatility) index is down 7.6% at 21.92. Out of 1,733 stocks traded on the NSE, 606 declined and 813 advanced today.

Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma, Vedanta and Wipro are among the gainers, whereas Bhel, Dr. Reddy's and NTPC are losing sheen on BSE. Banking shares higher in last five days, the Bank Nifty has jumped 1.5% to 16,995, and the PSU Bank index has gained nearly 1.3% to 3,077. Yes Bank is the top Nifty gainer rallied 3.6% at Rs. 755.

Canara Bank is up 3% at Rs. 270. Axis Bank has jumped 2% at Rs. 495. PNB, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank and Bank of India are all up over 1% each. The CNX PSU Bank is trading up 1.2% at 3,075. The CNX PSU Bank opened at 3,072 and hit a high of 3,082 and a low of 3,046.
