Sensex Rallies Over 150 Points; Pharma, Banking Stocks Lead

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,867 up 161 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,866 up 37 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.61% at 10,635, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.64% at 10,802. All sectors are in green on NSE. The India VIX (Volatility) index is down 4.83% at 22.59. Out of 1,703 stocks traded on the NSE, 349 declined and 936 advanced today.

Vedanta, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Lupin, SBI and ICICI Bank are among the gainers, whereas L&T and Dr. Reddy's Lab are losing sheen on BSE. Global cues are healthy for now. Japan's Nikkei 225 is up a percent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index has gained 1.2%. China's Shanghai too is up half a percent. US stocks closed over 1% higher. 

The Commerce Department reportedly said core retail sales rose 0.4 per cent in August. The Dow Jones rose 228.89 points, or 1.4 per cent, to end at 16,599.85 points. The S&P 500 gained 1.28 per cent to 1,978.09 and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.14 per cent to 4,860.52.
