The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,216 down 46 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,720 down 16 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.49% at 10,978 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.09% at 10,930.

GAIL, ICICI Bank, SBI, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, NTPC and M&M are among the gainers, whereas Dr.Reddy's, Adani Ports, Wipro, Tata Steel and Lupin are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in telecom, utilities, consumer durables and basic materials sector, while FMCG, utilities,IT, realty, auto and capital goods sectors are showing weakness on BSE.

The INDIA VIX is up 0.84% at 17.3150. Out of 1,806 stocks traded on the NSE, 720 declined, 773 advanced and 313 remained unchanged today.

A total of 17 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 21 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The Indian rupee opened lower by 3 paise at 66.57/$ against US Dollar on Friday as against the previous close of 66.54/$. The rupee ended marginally higher against the greenback; however, the downside in the domestic currency was limited. Short covering in US dollar against the basket of currencies is leading to lot of volatility in currency markets. Markets are now looking forward to US non‐farm payrolls for April, wherein expectations are calling for an addition of 203,000 jobs. The number is expected today. In related news, US jobless claims during last week rose more than the expectations. The reading increased to 274,000, a rise of 17,000 when compared with the prior week.
