The Indian stock market opened on a firm note after five successive days of gains. The mood, however, is a bit cautious with investors looking ahead to the GDP data, due later in the day. The BSE Sensex opened 92.15 points up at 26,817.75. Nifty opened 31.32 points, or 0.38 per cent, up at 8,209.85.

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,677 down 49 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,170 down mere eight points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.06% at 11,378, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.23% at 11,132. Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, BHEL, Bajaj-Auto and NTPC are among the gainers, whereas Sun Pharma, GAIL, TCS, ONGC, M&M, RIL and L&T are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in auto, metal, industrial and basic materials sectors, while IT, telecom, consumer durables, utilities, teck and capital goods are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 0.67% at 16.0825. Out of 1,813 stocks traded on the NSE, 923 declined, 572 advanced and 318 remained unchanged today.

A total of 29 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 31 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. The Indian rupee opened marginally higher by 1 paise at 67.15/$ against US Dollar on Tuesday as against the previous close of 67.16/$.Today, markets look forward to India Q4 (FY15‐16) GDP reading, wherein expectations call for a growth of 7.5% (yoy).

DLF jumped 3.8% after the company has entered into an amended agreement to sell its 32 screens of DT cinemas to multiplex operator PVR at a revised consideration of Rs.433 crore. Tree House Education and Accessories Ltd stock was lower by 15% at Rs.60. Report says that Morgan Stanley Asia sold 2 lakh shares of the company.
