The BSE Sensex opened 41.15 points, or 0.15 per cent, up at 26,694.75. NSE Nifty opened 9.85 points, or 0.12 per cent, up at 8,166.50. Nifty hit 8,200 mark in the early trade for the first time since October 28, 2015. At 1:24 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 26,715 up 61 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,173 up 17 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.11% at 11,359, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.37% at 11,152. Coal India, Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, ITC, Infosys, Dr.Reddy's and SBI are among the gainers, whereas BHEL, HDFC, Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki and Lupin are losing sheen on BSE.

Some buying activity is seen in metal, basic materials, auto, IT, realty, utilities and banking sectors, while power, consumer durables, pharma, oil and gas and utilities are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 6.06% at 16.1850. Out of 1,824 stocks traded on the NSE, 709 declined, 793 advanced and 322 remained unchanged today.

A total of 39 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 22 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE. Muthoot Finance rallied by 9% at Rs.233.The company  posted a net profit of Rs. 2652.213 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 as compared to Rs. 1651.858 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2015.

BHEL dropped 3.3% to Rs.124. The company’s standalone revenue stood at Rs. 10,004.77 crore, down 21.5% yoy but up 87.86% qoq. Tree House Education and Accessories Ltd stock was lower by 7% at Rs.72.The net profit stood at Rs.6.78 crore, while revenue from operations was at Rs.209.33 crore, for FY16.
