The BSE Sensex has opened over 200 points lower, while the Nifty hit a low of 7,826 in early trade. At 12:01 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,512 down 261 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,819 down 74 points.
The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.40% at 11,159, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 0.01% at 11,144.
ONGC, SBI, Adani Ports, L&T, Dr.Reddy's and Lupin are among the gainers, whereas Maruti Suzuki, BHEL, Bajaj-Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors and Asian Paints are losing sheen on BSE.
Some buying activity is seen in oil and gas and energy sectors, while auto, banking, IT, industrial, FMCG, IT and telecom sectors are showing weakness on BSE.
The INDIA VIX is up 2.97% at 16.8600. Out of 1,808 stocks traded on the NSE, 851 declined, 615 advanced and 342 remained unchanged today.
A total of 26 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 23 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
The Indian rupee opened lower by 8 paise at 66.95/$ against US Dollar on Wednesday as against the previous close of 66.87/$. The rupee hit 2-month on persistent dollar demand from banks and importers on the back of higher greenback in the overseas market.
