The BSE Sensex opened at 26,975, touched an intra-day high of 26,200 and low of 26,911 respectively, and finally ended with a gain of 234 points at 27,080. Gainers was seen in IT, Capital Goods, Auto, Pharma and Metal stocks. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,186 hitting a high of 8,232 before signing off with a gain of 60 points or 0.7% at 8,190.
The India VIX (Volatility) indexis down 3.25% to 18.92. Back to equities, the CNX Nifty Junior and the Midcap indices slipped 0.1% to 19,944 and 13,256, respectively, while the Smallcap index ended down 0.04% to 5,418.
On the global front, China's Shanghai Composite index gained 1.3% to 3,183. The Hang Seng marginally up 0.4% to 22,531, and the Nikkei rallied 1.6% at 18,438. As of 1530 hrs IST, the FTSE 100 had soared 1% to 6,430. The DAX and the CAC 40 had jumped over 1% at 10,104 and 4,720, respectively. The Indian currency was quoted at 64.96 per US dollar, up 52 paise from the previous trading session.
